Ashland Co, OH (January 6, 2025) – An injury semi-truck crash occurred in Ashland County on January 6, involving a collision between a propane tanker and a semi-truck, leading to both drivers being injured and a hazardous propane leak. The incident, which prompted evacuations and road closures, took place at approximately 12:22 p.m. at the intersection of US 30 and State Route 89 in Mohican Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the crash occurred when a semi-truck traveling north on State Route 89 collided with a propane tanker truck moving east on US 30. The impact caused the propane tanker to overturn, resulting in a leak of 2,600 gallons of propane.

Authorities acted swiftly, with OSHP managing traffic control and closing both roads to ensure public safety. Local businesses and residents in the vicinity were evacuated as a precautionary measure due to the leak and were allowed to return home by 5:30 p.m. after the area was cleared and deemed safe.

Both drivers were transported to University Hospitals Ashland with injuries. Firefighters assisted in extricating the vehicles while emergency responders worked to secure the scene and manage the propane leak. By 7:00 p.m., one eastbound lane of US 30 was reopened, allowing traffic to resume. However, State Route 89 remains closed between County Road 30A and County Road 2000 as cleanup and assessments continue.

Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this incident. We wish the individuals involved a swift and full recovery.
