Berlin Twp, OH (August 24, 2024) – A three-car crash occurred on Saturday afternoon on Route 224 in Berlin Township, resulting in multiple injuries, including two children. The incident, reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. east of Bedell Road.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country van traveling east crossed the center line in an attempt to overtake another vehicle. This maneuver led to a collision with a 1997 Ford motorhome towing a 2001 Wells Cargo trailer that was headed west. The impact caused the van to strike a 2019 Ford Edge, which was following the motorhome head-on.
The collision resulted in serious injuries to an 8-year-old passenger in the Ford Edge, who was transported to a nearby hospital. An adult and a 1-year-old in the Ford Edge also sustained injuries, though they were reported to be non-life-threatening. The driver of the van was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, none of the occupants of the motorhome, which included three adults and two children, were injured.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, were on the scene to assist with vehicle extraction and to control the situation. Route 224 was closed in both directions for approximately three and a half hours while authorities managed traffic and conducted their investigation. No charges have been filed as of yet, and the crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims. We hope they recover quickly.
Navigating Multi-Car Accidents
Multi-car accidents, like the recent crash in Berlin Township, often lead to severe injuries and intricate legal challenges. In Ohio, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported over 100,000 multi-vehicle crashes in 2023, which resulted in more than 30,000 injuries. These incidents can cause a broad spectrum of injuries, ranging from fractures and internal damage to long-term disabilities, due to the intense forces and multiple points of impact involved.
Immediately after such an accident, it is vital to prioritize safety and seek medical attention. Gathering evidence at the scene, such as photographs of the damage and witness contact information, is crucial. Additionally, reporting the incident to law enforcement and obtaining a copy of the police report will support your claim.
To establish liability, you must demonstrate that another party’s negligence was the cause of the accident. This typically involves collecting evidence like witness statements, traffic camera footage, and expert analysis. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can greatly assist in gathering and presenting this evidence effectively, ensuring you navigate the complexities of your claim properly. Seeking legal guidance is essential for victims and their families to navigate the complex legal process and pursue rightful compensation.
