Butler Township, OH (August 1, 2024) – A serious car crash early Thursday morning in Butler Township resulted in severe injuries to a child. The incident, reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, occurred at approximately 12:11 a.m. on Interstate 75, near the interchange with Interstate 70.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2016 Hyundai passenger vehicle driven by Peter Simpson, 36, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was traveling southbound on I-75 when it collided with the rear of a 2004 Chevrolet station wagon driven by Aayden Byrd, 18, of Trotwood. The Hyundai came to a stop in the roadway following the impact.
Byrd was transported to Kettering Health Dayton with suspected minor injuries. Two of Byrd’s passengers reported no injuries at the scene. However, Byrd’s third passenger was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital with suspected serious injuries.
Simpson reported no injuries at the scene but was cited for failing to maintain an assured clear distance ahead. All southbound lanes of I-75 were closed for approximately one hour due to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
