Cleveland, OH (November 6, 2024) – An injury car crash occurred early Tuesday morning involving a Benedictine High School transportation van and a Jeep. The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Wade Park Ave and Ansel Rd in Cleveland.

According to the Cleveland Police Department, the collision occurred when the Jeep hit the school van, which was en route to pick up students. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene.

Both the driver and the passenger in the school van were immediately transported by Cleveland EMS to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One individual from the Jeep was also taken to the hospital with injuries, though their condition remains unclear at this time. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.

Firefighters worked diligently at the scene to extricate individuals from the damaged vehicles and clear debris from the roadway. Meanwhile, Cleveland police officers directed traffic and implemented road closures to ensure the safety of first responders and avoid additional accidents. The crash scene caused significant traffic delays, and authorities urged drivers to avoid the area while the investigation was underway.

Investigators from the Cleveland Police Department are still looking into the cause of the crash. Early reports suggest that slippery road conditions, possibly from overnight rain, could have contributed to the collision. Authorities are also considering other factors, such as speed and visibility, though the investigation is ongoing.

The entire Benedictine High School community has been shaken by this incident, and the school’s leadership has extended its deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, their families, and all of those involved.

Although the total number of accidents involving school vehicles remains relatively low, they still pose significant risks to students, staff, and other drivers. A report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that school bus-related accidents result in 1,000 to 1,500 injuries annually across the U.S., with many involving other vehicles in collisions during school drop-off or pick-up times.

The risks associated with injury van accidents in Cleveland are heightened by factors such as weather conditions, road maintenance issues, and driver behavior. Accidents involving vans in inclement weather—such as rain or snow—can be particularly dangerous due to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Cleveland’s heavy traffic volume, especially during peak commuting hours, further increases the likelihood of collisions. Local law enforcement continues to emphasize the importance of safe driving practices, including slowing down in school zones and avoiding distractions behind the wheel.

If you’ve been involved in a van accident in Cleveland, it’s crucial to seek medical attention immediately, even if your injuries seem minor. Some injuries may not be immediately apparent. After receiving medical care, make sure to gather relevant documentation, including accident reports, medical records, and contact information of any witnesses. This will be essential if you decide to pursue a personal injury claim.

If you’ve been injured in an accident due to someone else’s negligence—such as distracted driving, speeding, or failure to follow traffic laws—you may have a valid personal injury case. It’s important to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney who can evaluate the specifics of your case and guide you through the legal process. A lawyer can help determine if you’re entitled to compensation for your injuries, lost wages, medical expenses, and pain and suffering.

In Ohio, the statute of limitations for filing a personal injury claim is generally two years from the date of the accident. If you fail to file within this time frame, you may lose your right to seek compensation. However, there are exceptions, so it’s advisable to contact a personal injury attorney as soon as possible after an accident to ensure you don’t miss any critical deadlines.
