Columbus, OH (December 5, 2024) – A serious injury semi-truck crash occurred early Thursday morning on the off-ramp of I-71 southbound, near SR-37. The collision, which took place just after 4:00 a.m., resulted in two individuals suffering serious injuries.
According to authorities, the crash occurred when 51-year-old Stephanie Cardenas, driving the semi-truck, lost control and collided with 64-year-old Patrick O’Neal’s Toyota Camry. O’Neal’s vehicle had previously been disabled after an unrelated crash on I-71 southbound. At the time of the incident, two Delaware County Sheriff’s cruisers were on the scene, assisting O’Neal, with their lights flashing.
The semi-truck then struck one of the deputies, 27-year-old Nickolas Golden, who had been on scene to assist with the initial crash. Both Golden and O’Neal sustained serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to Grant Medical Center for treatment.
Emergency responders, including fire departments, worked swiftly to secure the scene and assist in the extrication of the vehicles. Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as authorities investigated the crash and cleared the wreckage. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time.
