Dayton, OH (April 1, 2024) – Four people were killed following a collision near Dayton International Airport on Monday afternoon, April 1st. The crash took place just after 2:00 p.m. on Terminal Road.
According to an initial report, a Volvo XC90 was involved in a rear-end crash with a Nissan Frontier while the vehicles were traveling eastbound on I-70. The Volvo driver fled the scene of the initial collision and exited onto Terminal Road. While the Volvo was traveling on the driver of a Chrysler Pacifica tried to make a left turn onto Boeing Drive when it collided with the fleeing Volvo. The driver of the Chrysler, 77-year-old Larry Edwards of Tipp City, died at the crash scene. Three passengers in Edwards’ vehicle also died in the collision. They have been identified as 72-year-old Stephen Cassel, of Dayton, 77-year-old Richard Coatney, of Piqua, and 66-year-old Richard Turnbull, of Louisburg. A fourth passenger in the Chrysler was transported for life-threatening injuries.
The Volvo driver, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the Nissan driver was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation at this time. No further information has been released.
