Defiance Co, OH (December 17, 2024) – A serious injury bus crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon on Banner School Rd in Defiance County, leaving a local man with significant injuries. The incident was reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and took place at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Christy Rd and Banner School Rd.
According to the OSHP, 45-year-old Fredy Sosa was driving north on Christy Rd when he stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with Banner School Rd. As he attempted to cross the intersection, Sosa failed to yield and entered directly into the path of an eastbound school bus traveling on Banner School Rd.
The collision caused Sosa’s car to be struck by the bus and veer off the road, hitting a utility pole. Emergency crews, including paramedics and firefighters, responded to the scene. Sosa was extracted from his vehicle and transported to Defiance Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the school bus was treated at the scene for minor injuries, but no children were on the bus at the time of the accident.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol has confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Authorities worked quickly to control traffic in the area, and the incident was cleared without further delays. The crash remains under investigation, and no further details have been provided at this time.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident, and we offer our condolences to those involved.
