Delaware County, OH (December 9, 2024) – A tragic head-on car crash occurred Thursday night on US Route 23 in Delaware County, resulting in the death of a Columbus man and leaving another individual with serious injuries. The incident, reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, took place at approximately 10:40 p.m. south of Cheshire Rd in Liberty Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2017 Ford Transit Van, driven by a man traveling northbound, was hit head-on by a 2015 Honda CRV traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. The driver of the Honda, 58-year-old Christopher Carden of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, whose name has not been released, was seriously injured and transported to a hospital in Columbus for urgent medical treatment.

The crash prompted a quick and coordinated response from emergency services. Ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and fire crews worked diligently to extricate the vehicles from the wreckage. Authorities worked to control traffic, ensuring safety as the investigation continued. Both drivers were reported to have been wearing seat belts, although it remains unknown if either was impaired at the time of the collision.

The injured driver remains hospitalized with serious injuries, and an ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
