Delaware Co, OH (January 12, 2025) – A tragic car crash occurred on January 9 in Delaware County, resulting in one fatality and four serious injuries. The incident took place at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Interstate 71 South at U.S. Route 36/SR 37 in Berkshire Township.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), 35-year-old Michael Duncan was driving northbound on I-71 when he lost control, crossed the median, and collided with a Chevrolet Silverado. His car overturned and came to rest in the southbound lanes. Debris from the crash hit a Toyota Tacoma.
Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman and a 10-year-old child in his car were seriously injured, along with the two passengers in the Silverado, who were transported to Grant Medical Center. The two occupants of the Tacoma suffered minor injuries.
Emergency responders, including OSHP and Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, worked for hours to clear the scene and manage traffic. All southbound lanes of I-71 were closed temporarily but reopened after the area was cleared. The crash remains under investigation.
