Greene Co, OH (August 15, 2024) – A major car crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon on State Route 72, resulting in the death of one individual and serious injuries to another. The collision, reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Xenia Post, happened at approximately 3:58 p.m. north of Interstate 71.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 30-year-old man from Peebles was driving a 2013 Ford Focus northbound on SR 72 when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2023 GMC Terrain driven by Sherry A. Gerber, 62, of Sabina. Gerber was transported in critical condition by helicopter to Kettering Health Main Campus, where she was pronounced dead on Thursday morning. The Peebles man, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. His current condition remains serious, and authorities are closely monitoring his progress. Emergency response teams, including the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Police Department, New Jasper Fire Department, A-Towing, and Sandy’s Towing, worked at the scene to manage traffic, extricate the vehicles, and provide medical assistance. Firefighters played a crucial role in removing the damaged vehicles from the roadway to ensure a safe environment for other drivers.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has indicated that alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation as authorities seek to determine the exact cause of the collision.

We offer our condolences to the family of Sherry A. Gerber and hope for a swift recovery for the other victim.
