Jackson Co, OH (November 5, 2024) – An injury truck crash occurred on Tuesday morning in Jackson County, leaving one individual with severe injuries. The incident was reported by the Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and took place around 7:55 a.m. at the intersection of US 35 and Savageville School Rd.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash involved a red 1995 Mack dump truck driven by 40-year-old Keith Manning of Wellston, OH, and a red 2006 Honda Accord driven by 82-year-old Joseph Tanner of Chillicothe, OH. Manning, traveling westbound on US 35, was struck by Tanner’s car after Tanner, who was heading eastbound, attempted to make a left turn onto Savageville School Rd without yielding to oncoming traffic. The collision caused Tanner’s car to slide off the left side of the road, coming to a stop in the median, while Manning’s truck came to a halt on the right shoulder of US 35 westbound.
Tanner, the elderly driver of the Honda Accord, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was quickly treated by emergency personnel at the scene. He was initially transported by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services to Holzer Hospital in Jackson for stabilization. Due to the severity of his injuries, Tanner was airlifted to Grant Hospital in Columbus for further treatment. Manning, the driver of the Mack dump truck, was uninjured in the incident. Authorities confirmed that Manning was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The accident caused significant traffic disruption in the area. The left westbound lane of US 35 was closed for approximately one hour while emergency responders conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage. Jackson County Firefighters assisted with vehicle extraction and securing the scene while law enforcement worked to manage the traffic flow around the crash site. The highway has since been fully reopened to traffic.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers present on Ohio’s roadways, especially at busy intersections. While it remains unclear whether weather or road conditions contributed to the crash, authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision.
Our thoughts are with Joseph Tanner and his family during this difficult time as he continues his recovery. We also express our gratitude to the first responders who worked diligently to manage the scene and ensure public safety.
Injury Truck Accidents in Jackson County: A Growing Concern

Despite existing safety regulations, the number of serious truck accidents continues to rise, highlighting the need for stronger enforcement and better driver education. If you’re involved in a truck accident, it’s crucial to seek immediate medical attention, even if injuries aren’t immediately obvious.
