Mingo Junction, OH (January 1, 2025) – An injury bus crash occurred on Friday involving a Steel Valley Regional Transit Authority (SVRTA) bus and a red Hyundai Elantra on McLister Avenue Mingo Junction, Ohio. According to reports from the Herald-Star, the incident occurred when the Hyundai, driven by Briget Chase of Bloomingdale, Ohio, crossed into the bus’s lane.
At the time of the crash, the bus, driven by Christine McAbee, was descending a hill. McAbee saw the Hyundai coming from the opposite direction and moving past the center line into her lane. Despite attempting to avoid the collision by swerving into a guardrail, the Elantra hit the bus. Both vehicles sustained significant damage.
McAbee, along with Chase and Treymont Dawson, a passenger from Steubenville, was transported to Weirton Medical Center. McAbee, though injured, reported feeling fine after the crash. Dawson, another passenger on the bus, also sustained injuries but is expected to recover.
First responders, including emergency medical personnel, quickly arrived at the scene. Ambulances transported the injured to the hospital, while fire crews assisted in removing the vehicles from the road. Local authorities were present to manage traffic and ensure safety, as McLister Ave was temporarily closed during the investigation and cleanup.
