Paulding Co, OH (November 25, 2024) – An injury bus crash occurred Monday morning involving a road crossing and a Paulding Exempted Village Schools bus. The incident, reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post, took place at approximately 8:30 a.m. on County Rd 209 in Auglaize Township.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Jennifer Burgei failed to yield to a stopped bus with its stop-arm extended, which was picking up children at the intersection. Burgei’s vehicle then swerved off the left side of the road, colliding with the bus and causing significant damage. Two of the injured victims were students on the bus, while Burgei was also injured in the crash.
Emergency responders, including paramedics from local EMS, arrived at the scene and transported all four injured parties, including Burgei and the students, to ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening. Authorities closed the road temporarily to allow for the cleanup and investigation, and firefighters assisted with the extraction of vehicles involved in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and no charges have been announced at this time.
Our wishes for a swift recovery to all injured parties.
Injury Bus Accidents in Ohio and How to Seek Justice
Bus accidents, particularly involving school buses, have raised concerns in Ohio, where 1,249 such crashes were reported in 2022. While school buses are generally considered one of the safest forms of transportation, collisions with other vehicles continue to pose significant risks. National statistics indicate fewer than 1% of traffic fatalities involve children on school buses, but accidents with other cars remain a serious threat.
In Ohio, victims of bus accidents can file personal injury claims against negligent drivers or public entities responsible for managing bus routes. It is essential to seek medical care immediately, even for minor injuries, and document the incident. Consulting with an attorney soon after the accident ensures the timely filing of claims within Ohio’s two-year statute of limitations for personal injury cases.
