Stark County, OH (January 15, 2025) – An injury bus crash occurred Wednesday afternoon in Stark County involving a school bus from the Lake Local School District and an SUV. The crash, which took place at approximately 3:44 p.m. on Market Ave in Lake Township, left three students with injuries.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the crash occurred as the 2018 IC school bus, driven by a 44-year-old Uniontown resident, was stopped in the southbound lane to unload 48 students at their designated stops. While the students were disembarking from the bus, a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 36-year-old from Massillon, was traveling on the same road and failed to maintain an appropriate stopping distance. The SUV hit the rear of the bus, resulting in a collision.
Emergency responders, including ambulances, arrived shortly after the crash. Three students sustained injuries and were transported to a medical facility for further evaluation or treatment. The remaining 45 students and the drivers did not suffer any injuries. Firefighters assisted with removing the vehicles from the scene, ensuring the area was cleared and traffic was redirected safely.
The OSHP continued to investigate the incident, and the road was temporarily closed to allow for the response and cleanup.
Our deepest condolences go out to those affected by this incident. We wish the injured students a quick and full recovery.
