Tuscarawas County, OH (December 26, 2024) – An injury three-car crash occurred on Thursday at approximately 5:30 p.m. in Union Township, resulting in injuries to a Tuscarawas County sheriff’s deputy and a civilian driver. The crash took place in the 7200 block of US 250, near Dennison.

According to Sheriff Orvis Campbell, the deputy involved was responding to a report of a reckless driver when the crash occurred. The deputy, traveling eastbound on US 250, was attempting to turn north onto Fette Rd but did not realize that the car ahead of her had stopped. The deputy’s cruiser struck the rear of the stopped car, causing a chain-reaction crash in which the car was then pushed into the car ahead of it.

Sgt. Brian Hawkins of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the deputy did not have her emergency lights or sirens activated at the time of the crash. Fortunately, the airbags in the deputy’s cruiser were fully deployed, helping to mitigate injuries. Both the deputy and the driver of the car she initially collided with were injured and transported to area hospitals.

Local fire departments assisted at the scene, with emergency personnel extricating the cars involved in the crash and providing medical aid. The crash temporarily disrupted traffic in the area, and authorities worked to control the scene, ensuring a smooth flow of vehicles once the wreckage was cleared.

Neither of the civilian vehicles involved in the crash was the same as the reckless driver originally being pursued by the deputy.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to those affected by this tragic incident.
