Washington Township, OH (February 1, 2024) – A man was killed after being hit by a car in Washington Township on Wednesday, January 31st. The crash took place around 7:00 p.m. on State Route 258.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, a 52-year-old man from Newcomerstown was riding in a horse and buggy when the buggy was hit by a car. The driver of the car was identified as a 68-year-old man from Port Washington. The man had driven left of center just before the collision. The 52-year-old man suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified by police as Menno Troyer. The driver of the car fled the scene but was later apprehended. His identity has not been released at this time.
Police investigated the collision and determined that the 68-year-old man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. He was charged with OVI with additional charges pending. The accident remains under investigation by prosecutors at this time. There is no further information available.
