Wayne Twp, OH (October 17, 2024) – A tragic crash on Thursday morning on W Elkton Rd resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy and left his younger sister seriously injured. The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the 6700 block of W Elkton Rd, where a car collided head-on with an SUV.


According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, the teen driver traveled left of center, striking an SUV driven by a 60-year-old man, later identified as Kevin Johnson, a teacher at Edgewood High School. The force of the collision was devastating, leading to the immediate response of emergency services.

The 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His 13-year-old sister sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment. Both siblings were students at Preble Shawnee Local School District.


Superintendent Todd Bowling expressed his condolences in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that one of our students has died as a result of the accident.
