Winchester Township, OH (January 12, 2024) – Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating after a fatal pedestrian accident on on Thursday, January 11th. The crash happened in Winchester Township at the intersection of Eckmansville Road and Russellville Road.
Troopers say that, around 9:15 p.m. a 19-year-old man was driving a 2015 Honda Accord northbound on Eckmansville when he struck a 33-year-old female pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking northbound on Eckmansville when the collision occurred. The pedestrian, later identified as Heather Grooms of West Union, suffered critical injuries in the collision. Grooms was rushed by ambulance to Adams County Regional Medical Cent er where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Accord driver was not injured in the accident. There were no other vehicles or individuals involved.
The OSP investigation is ongoing. At this time, it is unknown whether any charges will be filed in connection with the crash. No further information is available.
